Towards interdisciplinary exploration of the Arctic

Jean-Baptiste Koehl (project leader)

Jean-Baptiste holds a BSc (2010) from the University of Dijon (France) and a MSc (2013) and Ph.D. Degree (2018) from UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø. He has also worked in the hydrocarbon industry as an exploration geologist (2013–2015). After his Ph.D., Jean-Baptiste held a few short-term positions as a Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Oslo, UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø, and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences in Ås (2019–2021), and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics in Oslo (20212022) prior to the official start of ArcTec.

His research is focused on the geology of Polar regions, especially the Norwegian Arctic, where he uses an interdisciplinary approach (including structural geology, tectonics, geophysics, geochronology, and petrology) and integrated datasets (e.g., fieldwork, seismic, magnetic, gravimetric, bathymetric, topographic, seismological, and well-bore data) to reconstruct the plate tectonics and geodynamics of the Earth in the Neoproterozoic–Phanerozoic. He also works actively on the San Andreas fault in California.

We are not looking for the 1 000 000 places where not to find Timanian faults,

but for the few places where to find them.
